James Hardie Advances Sustainability Strategy to Build a More Resilient Future
Company releases annual sustainability report, highlighting its leadership in resilient building solutions, progress in circularity and decarbonization, and community impact

SYDNEY & CHICAGO, August 27, 2026 - James Hardie Industries plc (NYSE / ASX : JHX) ("James Hardie" or the "Company"), an industry leader in exterior home and outdoor living solutions, and a company inspiring how communities design, build and grow, today released its latest annual sustainability report entitled “Building a Resilient Future.”

The report highlights how James Hardie is advancing its purpose of Building a Better Future for All™ through resilient products, circularity, decarbonization, investment in its people and support for communities around the world. As the Company’s first Sustainability Report following the combination with The AZEK® Company, it also introduces refreshed sustainability goals and ambitions that reflect the priorities and strengths of the combined organization.

Performance highlights from the report for fiscal year 2026 include:
Circularity at Scale
- Diverted 240 million pounds of process waste from disposal, advancing progress toward the Company’s goal of zero process waste to disposal by FY36
- Recycled 545 million pounds of process waste and scrap material, advancing toward an ambition of recycling one billion pounds annually
Decarbonization With Discipline
- Reduced Scope 1+2 GHG emissions by 18 percent versus FY22*, advancing toward the Company’s goal of a 42 percent reduction by FY31
- Improved natural gas efficiency by 10 percent versus FY24 in ANZ
- Achieved Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Certified® Full Scope Silver, C2C Certified® Material Health Silver and C2C Certified® Circularity Silver for fermacell® gypsum fiber board and fermacell® Therm25® products based on version 5.0
Prioritizing People
- Continued to advance Zero Harm initiatives and a global three-year, $75 million strategic safety infrastructure upgrade investment
- Advanced development of a long-term strategic environmental, health, safety and security (EHSS) roadmap
- Over 7,000 employees participated in 139 global events and programs during the second year of the Grow@Hardie career development program
Building Community Resilience
- Donated more than 850,000 square feet of products to support local communities and families impacted by wildfires, severe weather and other challenges
- Published the company’s first Human Rights Salience Review
- Employees gave more than 1,000 total volunteer hours to support local communities
