BENEFITS OF THE HARDIE™ ARCHITECTURAL COLLECTION
The Hardie™ Architectural Collection shares many advantages with our other products, including Hardie® Plank, Hardie® Shingle, and Hardie® Artisan® Siding. These and other Hardie® fiber cement offerings combine appealing visuals with exemplary performance.
Design Flexibility
Designed in collaboration with experienced architects and designers, the Hardie™ Architectural Collection helps you create a unique home exterior décor with appeal. The 12-foot-long panel options mean fewer flashing joints and less interference with the façade’s aesthetics. Additionally, the Collection’s Panel come primed and ready for the paint color of your choice.
The collection also lends itself to a variety of mix-and-match techniques. For example, you could:
- Orient the Panel vertically and horizontally to add visual interest and awareness.
- Mix-and-match paint colors and textures to add pop to your home’s exterior.
- Integrate the Hardie® Architectural Panel with other Hardie® fiber cement and trim products for a one-of-a-kind exterior appearance.

Low Maintenance and Costs
Like other Hardie® exterior products, the Hardie™ Architectural Collection beautifies your home’s exterior while reducing repair efforts and costs. Furthermore, a 30-year non-prorated limited, transferable substrate warranty supports the materials and installation.
Lasting Durability and Protection
The Hardie® Architectural Panel are Engineered for Climate®. In other words, the paneling and trim are designed specifically with your climate zone in mind for optimal performance. In the northern USA and Canada, HZ5® products resist shrinking, swelling and cracking even after years of wet or freezing conditions. HZ10® products are designed to resist hot, humid conditions, blistering sun and more.
Another benefit is that the Hardie® Architectural Panel, like all Hardie® fiber cement products:
- Offer water management features that help reduce moisture problems leading to rot or mold.
- Are unappealing to pests and creatures like woodpeckers, carpenter ants and termites.
- Is noncombustible*; and won’t burn or ignite when exposed to a direct flame.
THREE OPTIONS, MANY VARIABLES
Your design imagination can run wild when you tap into the Hardie™ Architectural Collection for your home’s exterior. Stunning on their own, the Hardie® Architectural Panel is designed to pair with other Hardie® siding products to create a dynamic exterior. Take advantage of the variety of profiles and textures James Hardie offers to highlight the architectural details unique to your home.
Highlighting architectural details
One way to use the Hardie® Architectural Panel is to mix-and-match the different textures, such as this home, which is clad in Sea Grass and Fine Sand. These different surfaces provide a dynamic exterior by highlighting areas of visual interest, with the taupe Sea Grass providing a focal point for the home’s entryway. The contrasting charcoal color and trim battens brings the details of the bump-out forward.

Rather than competing against each other, these two architectural materials complement each other, generating a striking appearance for this home. Light gray Fine Sand cladding for the main home is contrasted by the Sea Grass panel for the charcoal bump out and taupe accent walls for the structure’s entry way. Hardie™ Architectural Trim helps create a modern feel, setting it apart from others in the neighborhood.
The Fine Sand texture offers a sleek, contemporary look, mimicking the appearance of smooth concrete. Here, paired with the Hardie® Trim Batten, Fine Sand gets an extra boost of dynamic finish.

The Sea Grass application over the entryway provides a connection to nature, softening the otherwise sharp angles and lines of the rest of the house. Choosing a lightly contrasting color with taupe also helps draw the eye and break up any monochromatic monotony without conflicting with the white and charcoal.
In a similar application, the below multifamily/townhome structure boasts both Hardie™ Architectural Collection’s Sea Grass and Mounded Sand products. The Mounded Sand paneling, painted in tan, is used as the building’s primary cladding and on the second story, Sea Grass, in cream, is placed above the ground-floor entrance, providing a nice exterior contrast.

The Mounded Sand texture has a rough, warm quality similar to stucco, a perfect choice for Tudor, Spanish Colonial, or Mission Revival applications. Unlike stucco, Mounded Sand doesn’t require the on-going or costly maintenance of the sand composite plaster. This Hardie® Architectural Panel texture pairs well with other wood-look products like Hardie® Plank, Hardie® Panel, or Hardie® Trim Batten Boards.
Mix-and-match products to create contrast
A monochrome color scheme especially benefits from mixed material uses, as light colors reflect light differently depending on the textures and will appear to vary in tone throughout the day.

The Panel in Fine Sand give the farmhouse a modern makeover, creating a concrete-like exterior look, while the Hardie® Plank lap in the same color on the second story creates dynamic visual interest, and grounds the rustic aesthetic.
Even homes with uniform texture and color can create interest through the use of a trim in a contrasting texture and color. Consider pairing smooth Hardie® trim with Panel in Fine Sand to create an interesting mix of textures.
The flexibility of the Hardie™ Architectural Collection means mixing materials in the same color can provide a refined, classic look. Meanwhile, light hues and darker trim offer a striking contrast and a one-of-a-kind aesthetic.

*Hardie® fiber cement products are noncombustible and/or have a Class A fire rating when tested in accordance with ASTM E84. Fiber cement fire resistance does not extend to applied paints or coatings, which may be damaged or char when exposed to flames. The use of noncombustible siding, combined with other fire mitigation measures, may help harden a home against external fire.
