Discover Hope Center & Berkeley Way Apartments in Berkeley, California: an innovative supportive housing project that addresses the full spectrum of housing and food insecurity in downtown Berkeley while setting new standards of “high exterior design” in the space.

Featured on “America ByDesign | Architecture,” an editorial television program focused on celebrating American architectural projects from AIA members, this affordable housing project designed by LMS Architects features two side-by-side developments:

  • Berkeley Food and Housing Project’s Hope Center: 53 permanent supportive housing apartments, a 32-bed homeless shelter, 12 transitional beds for homeless veterans, a community kitchen, and wrap-around services for mental health, substance abuse, job training, and social activities.
  • BRIDGE’s Berkeley Way Apartments: 89 affordable homes and services for low- and very low-income families.

Featuring 5/16” Hardie® Plank Lap Siding and products inspired by Hardie Architectural Metal Trim, LMS Architects took traditional products and created a modern aesthetic—achieving a unique combination of clean lines and stylistic breaks.
