After Direct Hit by Hurricane Ike, Beachtown Emerges Unscathed
In the June 2008 issue of Streetscapes, we featured the New Urbanist community of Beachtown, located in Galveston, Texas. In September, the young development faced down Hurricane Ike's 110-miles-per-hour winds and 12-foot storm surge. We're pleased to report that the homes, built using hurricane-resistant engineering and materials (James Hardie's Artisan® lap siding among them) sustained little damage.
