Jack Bock purchased his 1930's home with the original asbestos siding. It was chipping, cracking, rotting and falling off in places. When he and his wife spotted a kiosk in the mall with literature about James Hardie siding and Lakeside Exteriors, they recognized the product from television.

"We watch HGTV 90% of the time and have seen James Hardie siding used on many homes on various shows. And, we're especially impressed that it is the siding of choice for ABC's Extreme Home Makeover."

"After picking up the brochure in the mall, my wife started reading more about it and decided we needed to replace the siding. We met with Dan and Matt of Lakeside Exteriors and liked that they were family-owned. They were responsive, didn't pressure us and guided us through the process."

The Bocks had dealt with numerous water leaks around the dormers that roof repair work had been unable to fix. It turned out to be more of a siding issue than a roofing issue. Dan assured them that with proper installation of James Hardie siding, they would not see leaks like this anymore.

The Bocks are very satisfied with their new home exterior. Jack has even offered to work the home shows for Lakeside to spread the word.

"Even though the property assessments in this area have fallen slightly, I'm not worried because I know these improvements and choosing a quality product like HardiePlank have increased the value of our home."

Before & After Project:
Forsyth Home, Midlothian, Virginia

Products used: HardiePlank Beaded Cedarmill in Harris Cream. HardieTrim, HardieSoffit.

When the Forsyth's bought their fixer-upper, they knew they'd eventually replace the hardboard siding visibly wavy from years of saturation. But, when they discovered a bird had worked its way through the siding, had built a nest and was living inside a second floor wall, they knew they couldn't wait any longer.

They began researching exterior alternatives at the local home show. Vinyl and HardiePlank were the predominant choices.

"Hardie was clearly the best product but some companies said we didn't need the best, it was too heavy and it would pull the walls down. We were looking for quality, so the next step was finding someone to install it."

They remembered Blue Ridge Exteriors from the home show and found their web site and presentation style informative and personal.

"It didn't feel like a huge production business. More importantly, it was clear that no one else specialized in Hardie installation. So, it was easy to choose Blue Ridge. They have a lot of integrity and Hardie is all they do."

While Virginia is typically more conservative in exterior home colors, the Forsyth's chose Harris Cream from James Hardie's ColorPlus Collection, brightening the streetscape. Every stick of wood was replaced with Hardie products including the trim around the windows and doors, soffit and fascia.

"It transformed the house. It was dated. Now it's bright and crisp. It looks like a brand new house."
