No matter what James Hardie siding product you choose, applying a top quality primer is the first critical step to ensure lasting performance and beauty. That's why James Hardie developed PrimePlus® sealer and primer - the first factory applied primer designed specifically for fiber cement siding products.

FINISHING JAMES HARDIE SIDING PRODUCTS:
For best results with our exclusivePrimePlus® factory priming system, use high quality (premium), exterior grade topcoats. Paint PrimePlus® Primer within 180 days of installation. Use topcoats that are designed and recommended for cement based building materials (fiber-cement, masonry, brick or stucco).

Note — The use of oil based paints on fiber cement could result in increased surface roughness, loss of adhesion, cracking or excessive chalking. James Hardie does not recommend the use of oil based paints over unprimed fiber cement siding products. Stains containing linseed oil are specifically designed for wood and may not be suitable for fiber cement siding products.

Note — James Hardie does not recommend the use of stain coatings on its fiber cement products. Semi-transparent stains can vary in uniformity of appearance depending on method of application & conditions and will require a high level of skill & craftsmanship to achieve a uniform appearance. Clear coats have not proven durable in exterior exposure and James Hardie considers them a maintenance item that may require application of a refurbishing sealer at regular intervals. James Hardie expressly excludes from coverage in all of its product warranties damage or defects resulting from or in any way attributable to, among other things, efflorescence, peeling or performance of any third party paints, stains and/or coatings.

Note — High pressure water blast and sand blasting may damage the surface of fiber cement. James Hardie does not recommend these methods of cleaning. Low pressure water spray, or a medium bristle (nonmetal) brush are more suitable for cleaning fiber cement products. Acid washing can damage the fiber cement surface and is not recommended. For "care & maintenance" instructions for ColorPlus, please refer to the Valspar instruction sheet.

If a pressure washer is to be used, use wide fan tips only, at low pressures under 1,500 psi and at safe distances. Keep fan nozzle no closer than 6' to wall. Exercise extreme caution. Improper use could lead to damage of the surface and in-turn, a loss of warranty coverage.
