James Hardie® assists family of wounded vet with product donations to Homes for Our Troops organization

April 23, 2010— James Hardie Building Products Inc. (NYSE: JHX) recently donated a complete exterior siding system to be used by Homes for Our Troops, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing housing for returned veterans with special needs. The products will be used for Marine Lance Corporal (LCpl) Kade Hinkhouse's new house, located in Elizabeth, CO. The donation includes HardiePlank® Lap Siding, HardieTrim® Boards, HardieSoffit® Panels and HardieWrap™ weather barrier.

Home for Our Troops has organized the donation of a house to LCpl Hinkhouse, who was on patrol in Ramadi, Iraq, when the Humvee he was riding in was destroyed by an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden in the road. From this incident, Hinkhouse's right leg required amputation. He spent more than a year and a half recovering from cranial plastic surgery to repair his skull and endured countless hours of rehabilitation. Hinkhouse eventually recovered enough to move with his wife to a small first floor apartment in Colorado to be near family; however, his injuries left him with limited control of his hands and forced him to rely on a wheelchair for mobility.

The organization is hosting a three-day "Build Brigade," starting Friday, April 30 – Sunday, May 2, which will be attended by hundreds of volunteers and professionals and is made possible by the support from a number of generous individuals, foundations and corporations. "I found out about the project through the builder, Aaron Lovelace," said Chad Tennant, business development representative at James Hardie. "He asked if I would be interested in helping out, and after hearing the sacrifices that Kade has made for our country, James Hardie is proud to be a part of this project."

Not only do the donated James Hardie products come with the standard 30-year limited, transferrable warranty, the siding also incorporates the company's proprietary ColorPlus® Technology. The baked-on factory finish is backed by a 15-year warranty, meaning that the family will not have to worry about repainting. The entire siding solution will give the family a durable, low-maintenance exterior that will continue to provide superior performance.
