James Hardie® Backer Board Most Preferred Among Tile and Stone Installers
National survey rates HardieBacker® Cement Board the most preferred and most purchased
Mission Viejo, CA, April 5, 2010— A national survey of tile and stone contractors has recognized HardieBacker® by James Hardie Building Products Inc. (NYSE: JHX) to be the preferred brand of backer board for floor and wall tile installations.
The brand survey, conducted by Clear Seas Research, in partnership with the National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA), identified the manufacturers that tile and stone installation contractors primarily use and/or prefer. The survey addressed a number of categories, including backer boards for floor and wall tile. James Hardie HardieBacker® cement board was preferred by nearly half the survey respondents for floor tile installations and more than one-third of respondents for wall tile installations, making it the highest overall rated backer board product.
HardieBacker board was credited by contractors as being the best product, easy to use, high performance and readily available.
"We've put a lot of work into developing HardieBacker cement board and I think this survey shows that," said Mark Wallace, Interior Product Manager. "It doesn't get the consumer attention of a highly visible product like our market-leading HardiePlank® exterior home siding, but to thousands of builders and contractors across the country, it's a ‘beautiful' product because it performs exactly like they need it to."
The margin of contractor preference was significant. The survey showed 49 percent preferred James Hardie for floor tile installations and 38 percent of all contractors preferred the manufacturer for wall tile installations.
Produced with James Hardie's proprietary cement formulation and optimized for wet area applications, HardieBacker underlayment is one of the lightest cement boards available. It cuts easily (even in tight, awkward spaces), requires only a box knife cutter to execute a score and snap, has superior tile bond strength, and will not scratch porcelain or enamel surfaces.
HardieBacker board is available in a 3' x 5' and 4' x 8' sizes. The 3' x 5' x ¼" board features the exclusive EZ Grid® recessed fastener pattern to make installation even easier. For more information about HardieBacker Cement Boards, visit www.hardiebacker.com.
